Joanna St. John is the fiancée and crime fighting partner of David Dalton. A well meaning woman, she finds herself involved in a conspiracy with the crime lord Eduardo O'Brian and has to help David Dalton solve the case and bring Eduardo to justice.
Background[]
Knight Rider (1982)[]
After the death of her ex-husband, Arthur Abrams, Joanna calls the Foundation for Law and Government to help solve the murder as local authorities are useless. As Michael Knight begins to investigate, he meets DOJ operative David Dalton. Who tells both him and Joanna that he has been tailing Eduardo for many months now but has not found anything to arrest him. However, he knows that Arthur was killed by Eduardo.
Later, Joanna and David become closer as they continue to try and find the combination to Eduardo's safe. With Joanna tricking Eduardo into believing that she has an attraction to him. This allows David to gain the safe combination and find out the weapons that Eduardo is trying to smuggle into the United States.
Later, Eduardo discovers that Joanna and David are working together to stop his operation. Thus, he takes Joanna hostage. However, David, Michael, and KITT save her and stop Eduardo. Later, Archibald Hendley, arrives and offers Joanna a position at the Department of Justice. A position she accepts, thus she becomes David's partner and they begin to get more involved with each other and eventually becoming engaged.
Personality[]
Joanna is a nice and very caring woman, but one who isn't afraid to speak her mind or stand her ground. Something both David and Michael find attractive.
Skills[]
Joanna is a very inquisitive woman. Though not as smart as Michael or David or as physically skilled as them. She manages to outsmart Eduardo multiple times as well as covertly gain the combination to his safe. Something that not even David deemed possible.

Trivia[]
- Joanna strangely does not appear nor is mentioned in David's spin-off series, Code of Vengeance. However, this is possibly because the spin-off wanted to stray away from the original backdoor pilot.
- In the fourth Knight Rider annual, it is revealed that Joanna and David become engaged off-screen.
