"Remember, one man can make a difference."—Wilton Knight, to Michael Knight, Episode 101: Knight of the Phoenix
The F.L.A.G. Pilot Program was a sub-team within the Foundation for Law and Government. Formed by Wilton Knight and led by Devon Miles, it sought to be an answer to crime with one man and one vehicle. The program was ended in 1990 when Michael Knight retired.
History[]
Background[]
Having seen a surge in crime and corruption, billionaire Wilton Knight decided to form the Foundation for Law and Government and start the Pilot Program. He entrusted Devon Miles to run the program, and originally had an unnamed driver assigned to K.A.R.R. However, these plans fell through when the driver was murdered by C.J. Jackson and K.A.R.R. didn't live up to Wilton's expectations. Eventually, Wilton had KITT built and recruited Michael Knight to the team after his near fatal encounter with Tanya Walker.
Knight Rider (1982)[]
After arresting Tanya's associates, Michael formally joined the pilot program and became its top operative alongside KITT. Later, Bonnie Barstow would join the team as the chief mechanic. Although, she would briefly leave the team in 1983 to pursue graduate studies, leaving Devon's daughter, April Curtis, to take over her role.
At some point in late-1983, April left this position for unknown reasons. Forcing Michael and Devon to request Bonnie join their team once more. In the episode, Knight and Knerd a young man named Elliot Sykes joins the team. However, this is only briefly as he later leaves the team at the end of the episode.
The final member to the team would come in late-1985, as Reginald Cornelius III or R.C. III would join the team as both the driver to the F.L.A.G. Mobile Unit and a partner to Michael Knight.
In 1990, Michael Knight officially retired from F.L.A.G. With this action, the team officially disbanded. With Devon continuing to lead the Foundation, KITT being dismantled and put into storage, and Bonnie and R.C. III going their separate ways. Eventually, Team Knight Rider was formed to take the pilot program's place.
