Knight Rider

David Dalton was a character originally created for a proposed series titled "All That Glitters", he did however appear in a series called Code of Vengeance which was short lived. Although, that character is much different when compared to the one that appears in Knight Rider

Background[]

Knight Rider (1982)[]

David is a Vietnam veteran, now government agent helping people find justice with his physical agility, acrobatic skill, and martial arts expertise. Accepting secret missions from his boss, Archibald Hendley on behalf of the United States Department of Justice.

In the backdoor pilot Episode 219: The Mouth of the Snake, Dalton and Joanna St. John work with Michael Knight and KITT to locate Eduardo O'Brian, a master criminal who has stolen a prototype rocket launcher.

Personality[]

David is a tough and no-nonsense investigator. Who prefers to work alone and avoids unhealthy habits such as drinking and processed foods. He also has a mysterious past that he tries to keep hidden from others.

Skills[]

  • Master Martial Artist - David has extensive combat abilities from his time in Vietnam, he also appears to be a better fighter than Michael Knight.
  • Genius Intellect - David is a highly intelligent investigator, although he lacks some of the experience of Michael Knight as he was not a cop prior to becoming an agent of the Department of Justice.
  • Superhuman Reflexes - David is a master acrobat with almost inhuman agility. He uses these skills in a manner that looks a lot like Parkour/Free running.

Season 2[]

Trivia[]

  • Noting the limited roles of Michael and KITT in David's debut episode, the authors of Knight Rider Legacy state that "many fans consider this to be one of the worst episodes of Knight Rider ever produced during its four-year run" and that it posted a season-low in the Nielsen ratings. Feeling the format was too similar to Cover Up, a show Larson had created for CBS that began airing in September 1984, NBC declined to pick up All That Glitters as a series.
  • After the events of the episode, as revealed in the fourth Knight Rider annual: David and Joana become engaged off-screen.
